PERSONAL FINANCE
DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to provide a standard-based student-centered curriculum to promote financial literacy. The infusion of the New York State Performance Standards and the National Voluntary Standards for Teaching Economics provides interdiciplinary, authentic learning experiences supported by the use of technology. The Financial Literacy Program will provide instructions in basic understanding of financial institutions, the use of credit, investment options and taxation. Students who successfully complete this course will gain valuable life-long skills to meet the challenges of a complex global society in which they will hold jobs, pay taxes, support families, create enterprises and uphold their civic duties.

Analyze how personal choices; education/training, technology and other factors affect future income as applied to lifestyle.

Explain how tax policies, personal taxes and transfer payments affect disposable income as applied to monies available for spending, saving and investing.

Perform basic financial operations such as using checking and savings accounts as applied to managing finances.

Develop, analyze and revise budget as applied to managing finances.

Identify the opportunity cost of a financial decision as applied to income.
