AIM: What are monomers, and how can they join together to form polymers?
Assignments that were turned in: ACTIVE READING (attached below)
Today we talked about our next set of building materials; monomers. Monomers are small, simple molecules that can join together to form the large, complex molecules that make up living things. These large molecules are called polymers.
The 3 monomers, or building blocks, that we talked about were SIMPLE SUGARS, GLUCOSE, and AMINO ACIDS.
The 3 polymers, or large molecules that we talked about were CARBOHYDRATES, STARCH, and PROTEIN.
YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT …..
Simple Sugars are synthesized into Carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates can be digested into Simple Sugars.
Glucose can be synthesized into Starch.
Starch can be digested into Glucose.
Amino Acids can be synthesized into Proteins.
Proteins can be digested into Amino Acids.
