Participation in Government Class (period 2) & Senior English Language Arts (ELA) Classes (periods 1 & 4)
In Government class we are going over reasons why the Declaration of Independence was written. The colonists wanted to explain and justify this separation to the world. They explained their belief that all people have equal inalienable rights. They felt the purpose of the government was to "secure" or protect these rights. When government does not do this, they felt they had the right to change their government. Tomorrow we will review the list of ways that the colonists' rights were taken away. WHSAD Juniors See “Massive Attack V Adam Curtis” at the Park Avenue Armory
Juniors in Mr. Rodriguez's Advanced Placement English Language class participated in a workshop at the Park Avenue Armory last Thursday. The workshop focused on the Armory's latest show, "Massive Attack V Adam Curtis", a show that "integrates music, film, [and] politics." After viewing the film at the Armory's Drill Hall and listening to Massive Attack's music, the juniors completed two collages that focused on the juxtaposition between significant world events that happened and advertisements they've been exposed to in their lifetimes. Today we discussed Networking. I expressed the fact that using your contacts when looking for a job can have a positive outcome. Many students asked questions pertaining to using their contacts and asked," why it is important to call on them when you might be looking for a job?" Some student felt it wasnt a good idea to ask anyone for help. I challenged those students about why they felt that way.
