Programs Available for Young People – Straight From the Department of Youth and Community Development
Young Adult Internship Program (YAIP) The Young Adult Internship Program (YAIP) is a 14-week workforce development internship program. YAIP targets young adults ages 16-24, who are not working and not in school. YAIP begins with a two- to four-week orientation, conducted by DYCD-funded community-based organizations (CBOs), and followed by a 10- to 12-week paid internship that offers structured work opportunities incorporating ongoing education, as well as additional participant and employer support. Elevator Pitch
The last session with Workforce 1, the students reviewed their resume and prepared a 30 second elevator pitch. An elevator pitch is a 30 second description of their skills, experiences and education. Today, Workforce 1 allowed the students to deliver their elevator pitch, while the other students listeneed and made comments and suggections about their speech. The students were placed in groups. 12th Grade Student of April: Kairy Castro
The 12th grader for the month of April is Kairy Castro. The teachers chose Kairy because she earned an amazing 99.33 average during the second marking period--the highest average earned at the Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design. Kairy was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of six, her father came from the Dominican Republic to help her mother raise Kairy and her two older sisters. Because of her family's support, Kairy has always been self-motivated, often spending her free time working to improve her academic scores, working at the Gap part-time, or with her family.
