The 11th grader for the month of April is Joshua Ibbott. Joshua was born in Brooklyn, New York. His mother is half Guyanese and half Bengali, while his dad is half Guyanese and half Panamanian. Joshua is one of 19 children--he has 11 brothers and 7 sisters. Joshua loves to draw, and his artistic skills are evident by his excellence in his Preservation Arts classes. In fact, Joshua's favorite teacher is Ms. Moos, one of WHSAD's talented art teachers. Joshua feels that Ms. Moos cares a lot about his well-being. 10th Grade Student of April: Arlene Lindo
The 10th grader for the month of April is Arlene Lindo. Arlene is currently ranked third in her graduating class. Her teachers chose her as the best student this month due to her dramatic improvement from the first to the second marking period. She also helps other students, serving as an in-class tutor whenever her peers have a difficult time understanding their work. Arlene has been always been a good student--she won her first writing award at a tender age of four, and became a published poet by the age of nine. She also loves to play sports. The 9th grader for the month of April is Anah Lewi. Anah was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She lives with her parents and two younger brothers. Her hobbies and interests include surfing the Internet and working with computers. Anah has consistently been the top ranked 9th grader throughout her first year at the Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design. She was chosen by her teachers to reward her for her consistency throughout this past school year. A special "Shout Out" goes to senior class salutatorian Dangelie Rodriguez for winning the Ronald McDonald House Charities HACER Scholarship. Based on Dangelie's outstanding academics, personal successes, and commitment to her community, she was awarded a $17,000 scholarship to use towards her college education. Dangelie is an active member of her community, serving as a co-leader and youth mentor for the Last Harvest Christian Center. As a co-leader, Dangelie organizes community outreach programs, such as serving meals at soup kitchens and tutoring mathematics to her peers after school. The College Now program offers qualified high school students the opportunity to enroll in a variety of activities including college-credit courses, college-preparatory courses and activities, and experiential-based summer programs.
