YCteen This summer, from July 8th to August 15th, Youth Communication will hold its 34th Annual Summer Writing Workshop in Manhattan, New York. Anyone ages 15 to 20 who lives within commuting distance is eligible to apply. Participants will get one-on-one mentoring from a professional editor. Participants will also spend time "on the street" as a reporter, go on field trips, and participate in the production of videos for our websites. Participants will be awarded a complete scholarship to cover the entire $3,000 cost for each person. The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with summer employment and educational experiences that capitalize on their individual strengths, develop their skills and competencies, and connect them to positive adult role models. SYEP Provides seven weeks of entry-level work experience in a variety of jobs at community-based organizations, government agencies and private sector businesses. In 2012 DYCD employed approximately 30,000 participants and placed them at 5,677 worksites. The In-School Youth (ISY) program provides year-round services to at-risk high school juniors and seniors who meet certain eligibility requirements. ISY services are provided by 72 contractors in all five boroughs. The goals of the ISY program are to ensure that participants graduate from high school, pursue college education, and develop career goals. Free Summer Program Opportunity from the University of Vermont
Are you interested in spending time at a college campus this summer? The University of Vermont will be hosting the National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) from July 28th to August 10th. This program provides students entering the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in the fall to live in the university's residential housing during that two-week period. The program also includes all meals, instruction, activities, and field trips throughout Vermont. The program is FREE and are funded through a grant from the Federal Highway Administration. Kayline Rivera, our senior class valedictorian, was recently accepted into City College's Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. At Sophie Davis, Kayline will receive her Bachelors of Science (B.S.) and her Medical Doctorate (M.D.) degrees in seven years.
