YMCA INTERNSHIPS
Applications are now available for the YMCA Teen Career Connection, a paid 8 week summer internship program that places teens in fields related to their career interests. In addition to experience, the participants are provided with a $1,250 stipend, $300 for professional clothing, and 2 monthly unlimited Metrocards. In order to qualify for the program the teen must be available for the entirety of the program (June 28th - August 23rd and September 9th), be a sophomore, junior, or senior in high school, and live within the 5 boroughs. Today students learned about classic motifs in bas relief sculpture. A common pattern found in architectural relief is the always-popular egg and dart. You can find this happy design decorating work as far back as Roman times, but builders still use it today. The egg and dart duo plays a major role in beautifying many Brooklyn neighborhoods, including Williamsburg. Any student who needs a graphing calculator may download a graphing calculator emulator online. If you use Windows, you can "emulate" a TI-83 calculator on your computer. Here are some steps to get you started: Make sure you have a copy of WinZip. You can download an evaluation version from http://www.winzip.com. Download the calculator emulator file to your desktop by clicking on this link. Use WinZip to unzip (extract) the file to your desktop -- this will create a folder called "vti Folder". Workforce 1 Visit
Today Workforce 1 "Scholars at Work" led our class. Olympia and Verne were the presenters. The title of the class was "Know Your Industry and How Workforce 1 Can Help." They introduced the students to the services of Workforce 1 and provided information on the manufacturing and transportation sectors. Olympia explained that they will be offering jobs to some students. The students will need resumes for their interview.
