The Unknown Soldier Speaks Magazine
The Unknown Soldier Speaks is a collection of student writing inspired by the brutal Vietnam War and The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. The juniors wrote point of view R.A.F.T.S. (Journal Entries, Letters, and Poems) that empathized and sympathized with the mental and physical struggles that forever changed the lives of the soldiers and their families. The junior students did a remarkable job of giving voice to the voiceless, showing appreciation to the brave soldiers that protected us, and describing the trauma that robbed so many of their innocence. I am proud to share such a rewarding experience that connects to the World Monuments Fund through the lens of The Vietnam Memorial Wall, also known as "The Wall"; a long overdue symbol … [Read more...]

The two Phipps Garden Apartment buildings were also designed by Stein for the Society of Phipps Houses. The tour was led by the lead researcher for the Landmarks Commission and also the writer of the landmark commission report which officially made Sunnyside Gardens a landmark in 2007. WHSAD Tales
When in April the sweet showers fall And pierce the drought of March to the root, and all The veins are bathed in liquor of such power As brings about the engendering of the flower, When also Zephyrus with his sweet breath Exhales an air in every grove and heath Upon the tender shoots, and the young sun His half-course in the sign of the Ram has run, And the small fowl are making melody That sleep away the night with open eye (So nature pricks them and their heart engages) The people long to go on pilgrimages... Which is exactly what seven seniors and I did on the 18th of April, the believed date that Geoffrey Chaucer's pilgrims set out on their journey to Canterbury to see the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket. This trip to Saint … [Read more...]
