WHSAD Students attend the Future In Focus: Exploring College and Careers Fair
17 Juniors and Sophomores from WHSAD attended the Future In Focus: Exploring College and Careers Fair on Thursday, March 9th 2017. The fair provided our students with information into the world of college and careers. The all day session included presentations on an array of post-secondary opportunities and the benefits of work in organized labor, including apprenticeship programs. Our students met with members of several construction and building trade unions. Students entering 11th and 12th grade this fall are eligible for the College Now: Introduction to Engineering and Computer Technologies Summer Course. See your guidance counselor for an application. This course, will introduce them to four engineering disciplines through an exploration of basic concepts in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design Technology; Computer Systems Technology; Electrical Engineering Technology; and Electromechanical and Computer Engineering Technology. NYRR $2,000 Scholarship for Junior Girls
NYRR Run for the Future is a free summer running program for young women going into their senior year of high school. This unique opportunity welcomes those with little to no prior athletic experience and introduces them to the sport of running. Along with support and guidance from NYRR’s coaching staff, NYRR Run for the Future participants have access to workshops that teach the new runners about running technique, nutrition, form drills, stretching, as well as, developing healthy body image and goal setting. At the conclusion of the seven-week program, the runners participate in their first 5K race at the Percy Sutton Harlem 5K Run in late August.
