Full Ride College Scholarship for Juniors
The Coolidge Scholarship is an annually awarded, full-ride, presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and required fees for four years of undergraduate study. The Coolidge Scholarship also provides an annual stipend for books and supplies. This one-of-a-kind scholarship may be used at any Accredited American University. Anyone of any background, pursuing an academic discipline of study, may apply to this non-partisan, need-blind, program. Junior Bulletin & Announcements
Junior year is in full swing and students have begun the post-secondary planning process. Heather Butts, from HEALTH for Youths, has pushed into all the Junior classes to help students think about what they want in a college and/or career. Several college admissions reps have presented to the students at WHSAD. Many students attend a college fair on Nov 15th at the Aviator Center. We also had a day trip to SUNY Binhamton and SUNY Oneonta earlier this month. We will continue the planning process over then next few months with a variety of PTA workshops designed to help parents understand the college application process, SAT/ACT, financial aid, and more. The best way to determine if a college is right for you is by visiting the campus and speaking with their admissions counselors and students. Most schools offer campus tours and presentation. Check their websites as some ask you to register before attending. Since you are off for Election Day (Tuesday 11/8) and Veteran's Day (Friday 11/11) this is a perfect time to visit a local campus. Intro to College Readiness Workshop
On Friday, October 21st we kicked off our post-secondary planning series with a college readiness workshop. Ms. Terraferma, along with Ms. Heather Butts from H.E.A.L.T.H. for Youths, pushed into all junior English classes to help students start thinking about life after high school. Students were asked to write down what they are looking for in a college experience and/or career, what factors are important to them, and what their goals are. Register for SUNY Financial Aid Days
SUNY Financial Aid Days - SUNY is offering two Financial Aid Days to assist students and their families in applying for financial aid and completing the FAFSA. These days are typically held in late winter, but with the availability of the FAFSA on October 1 this year, we have moved these programs to the fall. This year, the dates are October 15 and November 12. These workshops are offered free of charge and are available at 41 locations throughout New York State to any student needing assistance with applying for financial aid.
