AIM: How can graphs help us make political decisions? Today we continued with systems of equations where one equation produces a circle and the other produces a line. Check the earlier Lesson on circle equations for help graphing circles. To graph and solve these types of systems we need to follow a few steps: 1. Graph the circle by hand. 2. Graph the line using a calculator. (or by hand if you are comfortable with it) 3. Clearly label the intersection points. You haven't actually answered the question unless you label the intersection points clearly as your solution. For example: In the classwork we have to make a decision. The city government is planning to … [Read more...]

Topic 5 (Linear-Quadratic Systems)
AIM: How can basketball coaches use graphs of linear quadratic systems? Linear quadratic systems can be solved by graphing the linear equation and the quadratic equation and then finding their intersection point. Follow these steps to graph and find intersections in a quadratic linear system: To look at how we can answer the AIM check the classwork attached here: [gview file="https://www.whsad.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Lesson-7-Activity-Sheet.docx"] … [Read more...]

Topic 4 (Equation of a Circle)
The equation of a circle looks quite different from parabola and line equations seen in algebra classes. This translates into a graph like the example shown below: When graphing circles we focus on the center and the radius. Using this information we can solve fascinating problems. Check the classwork below to see how knowledge of a circle can save a life when it comes to ambulance service zones!
