Participation in Government Class (period 2) & Senior English Language Arts (ELA) Classes (periods 1 & 4)
In Government class we are going over reasons why the Declaration of Independence was written. The colonists wanted to explain and justify this separation to the world. They explained their belief that all people have equal inalienable rights. They felt the purpose of the government was to "secure" or protect these rights. When government does not do this, they felt they had the right to change their government. Tomorrow we will review the list of ways that the colonists' rights were taken away.
