Topic 4 (Tangents)
Today we looked at a new type of line related to circles. A tangent is a line that only touches a circle at one point. A tangent line is a lot like a grazing shot with an arrow. I like to imagine the circle as a target and the tangent line as the path of the arrow. A arrow that just touches the target and passes by is a tangent line. Copy this link to read the first two tangent related theorems that we applied in the classwork and homework. http://www.regentsprep.org/Regents/math/geometry/GP14/TanCircles.htm Classwork and Homework: [gview file="https://www.whsad.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Lesson-4-Activity-Sheet.docx"] [gview … [Read more...]
Unit_Lamp_Orthographic Projection Drawings
In order to build our lamp we need to create a set of working drawings. The drawings will be orthographic projections. Orthographic projections are a collection of 2-d drawings that together give an accurate overall representation of a 3-d object. You will have to create up to 6 views: top view, 2 side views, front view, rear view, and bottom view. The drawings will be created in 0.5"=1" scale. AIM: How to determine what the front (most descriptive) view of your object is? Aim: What do you need to consider when arranging your views on your piece of paper? Aim: How to identify the necessary views to accurately represent your 3-d object with 2-d projection? Aim: How to decide which dimensions you need to place … [Read more...]

Topic 3 (Chords and Arcs)
Today we looked at three theorems related to chords and arcs formed by chords. All three theorems and practice problems can be found here. http://www.regentsprep.org/Regents/math/geometry/GP14/CircleChords.htm Look closely at each diagram. The diagrams are very helpful when it comes to interpreting the mathematical terms in the theorem. We took these theorems and applied them directly to practice problems attached here.
