Unit 6: Topic 4 (Rotations)
The last type of transformation we are working with in this class is rotation. In this class we only deal with rotations around the origin (0, 0). We also assume that rotations are clockwise unless it says otherwise. When rotating counterclockwise we subtract the angle from 360 and use the corresponding clockwise formula. For example: If you want to rotate (3, 2) counterclockwise 90 degrees... 1. 360 - 90 = 270 so we will perform a clockwise 270 degree rotation 2. Use the rotation chart (3, 2) becomes (2, -3) Classwork and Homework: [gview file="https://www.whsad.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Lesson-7-Homework.docx"] [gview … [Read more...]
Unit 6: Topic 3 (Dilations)
A dilation is a transformation that causes a figure to change size but keep the same shape. The image and the preimage are similar. This means that a dilation is NOT an isometry and it is the only type of transformation that we will work with this year that isn't. This notation means that we simply take our k (scale factor) and multiple it by the x and y values of our coordinates to get a new point. If 0<k<1 we get a smaller figure. If k>1 we get a larger figure.
