Today we began to learn about reaction diagrams to keep track of the energy in a chemical reaction. Both endothermic and exothermic reactions have a "bump" in the middle, because they have to go through an unstable transition state before they react. The only difference is the energy of the products relative to the reactants. Aim: How do energy levels change in a chemical reaction? Aim and Homework: Monday, February 24th
Aim: How can we use our passions and inspirations to write a poem? As you all know, we have been focusing on a joint venture between your senior ELA course and Mr. Codio's Architecture & Design course. Today, we read a poem, then listened to it performed and watched a video about the artist's inspirations and passions on writing. Your assignment, which is due next Monday, is to write a minimum 25-line poem that well represents you and your passions as a human being. See me for questions and further details. "We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble … [Read more...]
Thermodynamics (With a Vengeance!)
Today we tackled the basic vocabulary of thermodynamics ("thermo" to its friends). There are two types of reactions, as far as thermo goes: endothermic and exothermic. Endothermic reactions absorb energy from the surroundings, and exothermic reactions release energy into the surroundings. Please look over the presentation for more information.
