On Friday, October 21st we kicked off our post-secondary planning series with a college readiness workshop. Ms. Terraferma, along with Ms. Heather Butts from H.E.A.L.T.H. for Youths, pushed into all junior English classes to help students start thinking about life after high school. Students were asked to write down what they are looking for in a college experience and/or career, what factors are important to them, and what their goals are. Whether it is a 2-year college, 4-year college, vocational school or military, the focus of junior year is to Do The Research: Use the internet and start visiting colleges to find out more about different schools and programs, admission requirements, and deadlines. Additionally, all students should be developing their personal profiles (wish list, essays, resumes, brag sheet, etc.) The more students do now the easier senior year will be. Visit the guidance office for help.
Homework for our next workshop on Nov 17th:
- Bring in a copy of your resume.
- Bring in your list of “10 things you really want in a college/job”.
- Meet with Ms. Terraferma for at least 10 minutes (during lunch or one-on-one appointment).
- Bring back your green folder.
