MINUTES
PTA ELECTION for President. The Parent Coordinator, Mrs. Chu, introduced the Secretary Lisbeth Heras-Torres a 10th grade parent. The Treasure Mrs. Christine Artz Singh an 11th grade parent.
Mrs. Chu encouraged parents to run for the PTA president position since it is required to have a President, Secretary and a Treasurer. A ninth grade Ms. Jacqueline Ortiz agreed to run and parents voted for her in as the PTA President for the 2019-2020 academic school year.
Mrs. Chu informed the parents the great opportunities that WHSAD will be offering for the students regarding internships for grades 10 and above. The students can see Ms. Crespo in room 230. After school clubs for the students who are interested, may want to speak to the Principal, Mr. Cornell. He has an open door policy just contact Mrs. Chu and she’ll schedule a meeting with him. In addition, they will be offering regents prep for the students to get prepared for the NYS Regents which will be given in the spring.
A safety issue was brought up regarding adding a traffic light or a stop sign on Union and Meeker Avenue. This would make it safe for the students that cross the street since the cars will need to stop. At this time, the cars turn to the left, and the pedestrians can’t see when the cars are turning and this is dangerous. Therefore, it’s imperative for parents to become proactive and call their local council members and/or 311.
The PTA board scheduled the PTA meetings for every second Thursday of every month. The parents also voted for the scheduled times for the meeting to be held either 6:00PM or 7:00PM. The majority of the parents voted for 7:00PM

Mrs. Singh, the Treasurer, spoke to the parents regarding parent engagement is important and about grade fundraising to help the students reduce their cost of the senior dues once they are in the 12th grade. She suggested that parents can create a basket and the tickets would be sold during Parent-Teacher conferences. The money would be given to Mrs. Chu to keep it in the safe until the money may be deposited in an account.
The next PTA meeting will be held Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 7:00pm.
