Aim: ¿Qué es el Día de los muertos? (What is the Day of the Dead)
Objectives:
- Students learned about the Day of the Dead holiday celebrated in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries. They learned about the offrerings (altars) people make for their dead relaties, and the festivities that occur during the 31th of October (day of cleaning and preparations), November 1st (All saint’s day – for the children), and November 2nd (adults).
- Students learned about the monarch buterfly, and how many people believe the spirits of their love ones come back on the wings of the buterflies.
- Students also learned about José Guadalupe Posada a famous artist from the 1800’s. His art became a big part of the holiday.
- Students learned about Pedro Guerra, a Spanish singer/songwriter, and his song Ofrenda (altar).
