This dance program at WHSAD has a positive effect on me since I have such a strong passion for dance. This dance program is fun and whenever I am feeling down or not at my best, dancing motivates me and inspires me to not lose myself. I think everyone should have the opportunity to dance or at least try to dance and give the dance club a try. This dance program doesn’t just do hip-hop dance, but we do afro-beat, up-beat, and the most modernist dance. Overall, I recommend anyone who enjoys dance or participates in dance just for fun to join this dance program because it is extremely fun and entertaining. It would be cool to set up shows or films of the dances we make up and eventually share out the choreography to those entertained or interested in the program.
The participants in the dance program are a family to one another. Ms Erneste, one of WHSAD’s guidance counselors, is the leader and director of the dance program . Ms Erneste is extremely nice and welcoming! She brings snacks out during practice and is fun to be around. She also keeps the dance team organized. Ms Yaqarah Huggins is the dance teacher and her choreography is amazing. She is actually a substitute teacher for the school.. Ms Huggins is a professional dancer and helps influence the dance club by being patient with the students and bringing us dance students together as a whole.
In the future I hope we will be able to go on trips, have talent shows and have different ways to recruit new members. Throughout all the positive vibes in dance, I hope the dance club improves into the following year as something taken very seriously because dance is something a person should have passion for, and the dance club gives us the chance to express such passion.

The dance club is a safe space for all students to come and participate and express themselves in a physical aspect. It provides a mental break from a day full of academic learning. We welcome all types of students in the dance club. For instance we have male and female students and whether they are on the honor roll or struggling to maintain a 65 average, all are welcome.
Although we had a slow start this year, everything picked up rather quickly when we were lucky to have the substitute teacher, Ms. Yaqarah Huggins, who is a professional dancer and choreographer, help out tremendously. We were able to perform at the Annual Arts festival which I feel was a nice treat for students and parents alike. Next year, we hope that more students join the dance club and hope to have talent shows and/or more dance showcases. Additionally, we hope that the students can become more exposed to the world of dance, by attending trips to famous dance theater companies such as Alvin Ailey.
